Completion 2012 Status Completed

The project was nominated in the category "Cultural Buildings" at the "German Lighting Design Award 2012".

Within the scope of the reconstruction of the parliaments in Dusseldorf our office has been commissioned with the light planning the central plenary hall.

As one of the first and few parliaments in the Germanic Region, the Landtag was settled directly at the bank of the Rhine in 1988. The building complex is characterised by its openness & transparency as well as the arrangement of six semi-circled building parts around the plenary hall.

The necessary renovation of the lighting technology was planned considering the newest technology, the high demands on energy and CO2 reduction as well as a complete avoidance of mercury. Due to an application of new lighting technologies a higher level of well-being is to be achieved.

On the 4th of May daylight investigations and lighting design concepts were presented to a delegation of the parliaments and the consulting architects and engineers. Therefor a comprehensive simulation mock-up had been built in a 1:20 scale. With its help the day- and artificial light situations could be demonstrated in a conclusive way.
